Minnesota Timberwolves & Lynx

For three consecutive summers, I assisted with the official social media campaigns and accounts for the Timberwolves and Lynx during as an Interactive Services Intern. When I first arrived in 2009, the Timberwolves only had about 8,000 likes on Facebook, when I left the team had well over 150,000 as social media become the core cultural touchpoint in sports marketing at the time. .

On top of working with the social media accounts, I also assisted the Interactive Services Department with the official team website and online content creation and management. Whether it was covering the NBA Draft or the world-champion Minnesota Lynx team, I was given full access to cover the best athletes playing in the largest professional basketball leagues in the world. As a hardcore basketball fan, this was truly a dream internship.

Wolves Draft Live

I was the Associate Producer for the 2010 and 2011 Timberwolves Wolves Draft Live events at the Target Center.

I assisted T-Wolves staffers Jonah Ballow and John Focke (Hosts) with monitoring and filtering the social media integration of the show, while also providing them with up-to-the-second news regarding the draft.

The show was a huge success and was considered a leader in real-time social media coverage at the time. (This was way before Facebook Live or Instagram Live ya’ll!).

Content Creation - Timberwolves.com

During my summer internships with the Minnesota Timberwolves, I assisted the web team in covering the 2010 and 2011 NBA Drafts.

Whether it was interviewing draft prospects, taking photographs of NBA draft workouts at the Target Center, transcribing interviews, preparing online content or producing live content on Draft Night, it was amazing to be able to tell the story of a draft to the Timberwolves online community.

Writing for the Web - Minnesota Lynx

In 2010 and 2011, I was the beat reporter for LynxBasketball.com, the official WNBA website of the Minnesota Lynx. I would cover official Lynx practices, shoot-arounds and games for www.wnba.com/lynx. My goal was to give Lynx fans an all-access pass to the team. I would also explore and write in-depth, more emotional, off-the-court feature stories about the Lynx coaching staff and players. I had full, often exclusive, access to the players and coaches throughout the season.

I wore many hats for the Lynx. I would take photographs, write articles, transcribe interviews, live-tweet games, and share stories via the Minnesota Lynx's social media accounts.

I wrote over 40 published articles for lynxbasketball.com and WNBA.com during the Lynx historical run to the 2011 WNBA Championship.

It was an internship of a lifetime, and something that I will never forget.

Here are some of my favorite articles that I wrote during my time as the beat writer for the Lynx":
